Nissan Maxima Used Car Review
Any
car that shared engines with
Datsun's legendary "Z" cars (240ZX and later 300ZX) is a car to be
respected, and the Nissan Maxima certainly deserves respect.
This family sedan started life as a
big, square box but eventually morphed in to one of the best looking,
best performing sedans on the market. Not exactly a performance
car,
but awful close for what it was. And unlike most if not all of its
competitors, the Maxima retained a manual transmission option--a big
plus for drivers.
Ever endowed with 6 cylinder engines (inline and later V) the Nissan Maxima always had a fair share of grunt on tap, and performance car enthusiasts who still had to drive with the family were able to sneak it in below the radar thanks to four doors and plenty of comfort.
If you've ever seen an early Maxima being driven hard, you know the potential is there. The spec's surely are: 5 speed transmission, 4 wheel disk brakes, limited slip differential (1992 and on), sport adjustable suspension, and up to 255 bhp on tap depending on the year and engine. While not a rocket, the Maxima is still a very quick car.
At one point Nissan tried to end Maxima production, but Maxima fans worldwide raised a ruckus and Nissan eventually relented and relaunched the Maxima on a new platform shares with the Nissan Altima.
For those in the market for a used car value, Nissan Maxima prices are very reasonable espeically for older units. On early models the styling is also a little dated and the platform design rather old school, but to many these are positives.
There are few used car that can go as fast, be purchaed as cheaply, and be driven as comfortably as the Nissan Maxima. Combined, these are hard used car qualities to beat.
