Nissan 300ZX Used Car Review
For
those with a desire to own a car that is extremely fun,
plenty fast, and surprisingly luxurious, it's hard to find a better
choice than
the second generation Nissan 300zx Z32.
Building on the performance and
racing heritage of Nissan's
famed Z cars (240ZX, 260ZX, 280ZX, and Z31 300ZX; Fairlady Z as they
were known
in Japan) Nissan introduced the Z32 300ZX in 1989, a major upgrade over
the
previous generation Z31 300ZX.
More power, sleeker and more
contemporary styling, and far
better handling were design hallmarks of the Z32 300ZX--as was the 100
horsepower per litre benchmark achieved by the 300hp twin turbo version
(under
reported to 276hp due to a gentlemen's agreement between Japanese
automakers
and the Japanese government).
Power, handling, racing
accomplishments, and solid
reliability and resale value earned the Nissan 300ZX Motor Trend's coveted "Import Car of the Year" award in 1990. The 300ZX turbo was
also named one of the "Top Ten Performance Cars" by the same
magazine. Road & Track magazine even went so far as to name the
300ZX turbo
one of the "One of the Ten Best Cars in the World", while Car and
Driver named it "One of the Ten Best Cars".
The Nissan 300ZX is a car that does
not disappoint in any
area, except possibly one: space. The 2+2 version addressed this
somewhat, but
let's face it: anyone who actually cares about interior room while
accelerating
0-60 in about 6 seconds might want a different car. Sports car
performance is
what the 300ZX is all about.
These days a good condition Nissan
300zx can be had for a
reasonable price, but they continue to hold their values well overall.
Owners
tend to love them, and ask slightly more than perhaps they should for a
10+
year old performance car.
Well taken care of 300zx turbos are
not as cheap as we might
like them to be, even though they can be thirsty and require a fair bit
of
maintenance to stay in top tune. But dollar for dollar, the Nissan
300ZX is one
of the best performance car bargains on the roads today. Looks,
performance,
handling, and luxury don't often come in this reliable and long lived a
package.
If you're interested in affordable performance that can still impress, the Nissan 300ZX might be just the car you’re looking for.
