Mitsubishi Mirage / Colt Used Car Review
The
Mitsubishi Mirage, also sold in North American as the Dodge
Colt, is a unique used car. It came in two flavours, both very
distinct: the mild mannered commuter car, and the tire squealing
turbo-charged sleeper. The difference? The addition of a wonderful turbo charged 1.6 litre (and later a 2-litre) fire-breather that became something of a legend among used cars buyers looking for fun and pep along with reliability and practicality.

Never a particularly stylish car--the early Mitsubishi Mirage seemed to somehow just
miss the styling boat from almost every angle--it was and still is
loved by those who know: this car (at least the turbo charged version)
is a pocket rocket that takes a caning and keeps on gaining.
The normally-aspirated Colt was in comparison a wonderful and reliable
little everyday automobile that got great mileage, was easy to drive,
and just kept on going, typical of the many Japanese compacts of the
era.
Renowned in amateur racing (and drag racing) circles, the Colt (or
Mirage) is a tuners dream, with vast untapped potential waiting to be
released. And when it is released, look out: a tuned turbo Colt can put
out an east 250hp and turn in an 11 second quarter mile. Yes, they rip.
While good-condition turbo versions are hard to find these days as many
have been drive hard over the years, the NA models abound and are
sometimes ridiculously inexpensive. While not as fast, the price and
reliability are hard to beat. You could pay more, but why?
The Mitsubishi Mirage / Dodge Colt might not be the most stylish car on
the roads by any measure, nor is it the most popular or common. But it
is a used car to be reckoned with in its own right: reliable, nimble,
fun to drive, practical, and with the turbo charged engine, very quick.
