Honda CRX Used Car Review
The
Honda CRX is a modern classic: sporty, good
looking, and economical; fun to drive with excellent handling in stock
form; peppy, with engines ranging from 1.3 litres producing 57bhp up to
1.6 litres producing 157bhp (Japanese Market SiR).
Long out of production, the Honda Civic CRX is still a used car you can sink your teeth into.

For a (somewhat) practical personal people mover and a sporty small car
that's fun to drive, great on gas, and ultra-reliable, it doesn't get
much better than the Honda CRX.
For the reasons mentioned
above and more, the Honda CRX is one of the most in-demand Japanese
'sporty' cars out there, and used prices tend reflect this. Today the CRX is something of a darling of the tuner scene and
is regularly seen on drag strips, autocross tracks, and road race
courses around the world.
But
it's seen in mall parking lots, university parkades,
and suburban driveways even more often. If you don't need to
carry much other than yourself and a passenger,
the CRX is a fine choice. Early CRX's lacked rear seating
while later models were 2+2, but both versions are still short on
interior space.
The hatchback does allow for decent cargo space, but humans are
most comfortable up front. The
CRX shared many components with it's Honda Civic stablemate, but it also had
a few technological advances.
It was the second Honda car to receive a
VTEC engine (after the Honda/Acura Integra) and it also came fitted (in
Japan at least) with a factory glass roof that stretched from the rear
hatchback to the front windshield--a model that's very much in demand
these days.
With subtle styling and typical Honda
refinement, the CRX was never a particularly inspiring or exciting car.
Quiet, reliable, quick, and efficient? Absolutely. Pulse raising,
engine revving, anticipation building? Not so much.
But that which
makes the CRX a little bland for a sports car also makes it in demand, and there are plenty
of good used CRX's out there that haven't been modified or had the
wheels driven off of them, and plenty of people want to own one.
A
little pricey when new, used
CRX's are today very affordable--and thanks to Honda refinement and
engineering, there are plenty of CRX's still going strong. But they
tend to hold their value more than other used cars, and
prices even go up at times for these modern Honda classics.
